Botanicalls: A Walking Tour of Manhattan Led by the Plants of New York

This self-guided project will be presented at the BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) event at Conflux HQ on Thursday, September 11, from 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM and on Saturday, September 13, Maps for the walking tour will be handed out at the Center for Architecture.

Project Description::

A telephone walking tour led by / and of the wide variety of plants growing in the area surrounding the Center for Architecture. Participants call the Botanicalls main phoneline and navigate to the location-specific plant. Each tree or plant, speaks in their own “Botanicalls” voice - which is based on their botanical habits and characteristics. The plantlife introduces not only themselves, but also a bit of the natural history around them. Tour highlights include the Time Landscape–a garden installation that represents native pre-Columbian vegetation, sanctioned street trees, feral sidewalk grass, cultivated window boxes and the long-buried brook beneath our feet. Through this system, people are able to experience the area from the “plants-eye” view.
