Disco-nnect (Remix)
This scheduled tour will begin at Conflux HQ - Zone B, and will run from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM on Saturday, September 13.
Project Description::
Disco-nnect is a project that is approaching its first birthday: it was born at Conflux 2007.
Maebh Cheasty took advantage of favourable exchange rates and bought a computer in New York last September: she was unable to work it in time for Disco-nnect and abandoned the original mp3 led tour, instead performing live. A whole new style of performing was born for Cheasty, one that has proven to be direct and rewarding, and since then this live, low-tech version of Disco-nnect has gone on to be nominated for the Jayne Snow Award at the Dublin Fringe Festival.
A new version has been commissioned for July 2008 by the Project Arts Centre and Dublin Docklands, Authority and this new version deals with many of the tensions and excitements that exist inform former portal areas in a globalised economy. Narratives and traditional tour guiding are complemented with cheerleading, party games and encouragements to run amok. Disco-nnect at Conflux will deal with New York’s position as an entry point for immigration (Ellis Island) aswell as the decline in traditional dockland industries. In an age of reality TV, it is important to note that You’re Only Massive are on your side, want you to feel good and won’t ask you to do anything you don’t want to.
