Fake Attraction
This self-guided project will operate throughout the festival on Staten Island, with a map available at Conflux HQ; in addition, the artist will lead a tour beginning at Conflux HQ - Zone C on Saturday, September 13, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM.
Project Description::
Hopping on board a ferry to Staten island… is something you don’t want to miss especially if the ride is absolutely FOC !!! Staten Island transportation and sightseeing treasures is actually the municipal service since 1905, and meant for commuter route between Staten Island and lower Manhattan. The ferry ride covers a glorious, 5.2-mile, 20-minute mini-cruise with great views of the Statue of Liberty, New York Harbor, and lower Manhattan….at no cost…The Staten Island Ferry ride from Whitehall to St. George is the most widely visited tourist attraction in the City of New York. Yet rarely do visitors embark from the ferry and investigate the surrounding area. I believe it is due to the lack of tourist attraction.
In the spirit of American road side attraction and the curiosity of travelers. I decide to create my own fake attraction on St. George, Staten Island. Three fake attractions will be pointed out in St. George area. A wishing well, using an existing fountain at Borough Hall with fabricated story and mock historical documentation. A kissing stone on a curve wall along Bay Street. and a Wishing Tree behind the Staten Island Museum. All by altering the existing location by adding some props and plaques.
Postcards with the images of the tourist attraction and map/location on the back will be available on postcard racks at Conflux HQ in downtown Manhattan and at the tourist information center at Whitehall Ferry Terminal.
Ferry Ads that is on the wall of ferrys can also be employ to generate interest in those fake attraction.
With Fake Attraction in place, surely some visitor will be drifted outside of their usual route by heading back to Manhattan right after they disembark.
