Sit Projects

This outdoor installation will appear in the area around Conflux HQ for the duration of the festival.
Project Description::
Each installation is site specific; utilizing/recycling chairs that have been locally disposed of and arranging them at strategically determined locations.
Pragmatically, this arose from the pressing need for an array of benches/seats at bus and subway stops within New York City’s public transportation system.
By installing our atypical seating compositions, we encourage people to contemplatively stop, consider their purpose, possibly sit and engage with other local commuters over the curiosity of their current placement.

I can by an image of yours during my personal research on the often lack of seating at bus stops and what other artists are doing to comment on this need. I too have become extremely frustrated with the lack of seating in Memphis and designed a chair unit that attaches to a pole. MATA (Memphis Area Transit Authority) does not seem to care and I have literally thought about simply putting chairs out in the same way as you have. There are many bus riders that have even taken it upon themselves to create makeshift seating along the road from boxes, crates, and carts.
There is something extremely inviting and comforting when you see household chairs in unexpected places.
Check out my blog to find our more about my project. I am so glad to have found yours.

It’s hard to have seat or chair in NYC. The fact is that if you have it, they will steal it period. Might as well not have it. Just my 2 cents..
