Under the Bongtree

BongTree Site
September 13th & 14th
6pm - 8
Tompkins Square Park
Under the Bongtree takes root in Tompkins Square Park using LEDs to send beams of sonic light out into space. Six of these small bright lights hanging from the branches of a tree and peering up from the ground transmit six voices, the harmonic components of a dark and shifting thirty minute soundscape. The listener uses a pair of headphones and a small receiver to creatively explore the urban public space blending the six voices together depending on their receiver’s position to the light to build innumerable variations in the piece’s harmonic structure. Elements in the environment also affect the beams of sonic light, the shadows of trees creating subtle rhythms and beats within the melodies.

    Under The Bong Tree

“And hand in hand, on the edge of the sand,
They danced by the light of the moon,
    The moon, The moon,
They danced by the light of the moon.” *
    *Edward Lear
