Project Description::

Urban Disorientation Game: In this 2-3 hour game, participants are blindfolded and driven to a location several miles away from Conflux Headquarters. The game-players are divided into teams, and each team will be led by a UDG “guide.” The guides will each supervise a team, making certain that all precautions are taken to insure a fun and safe play of the game. Teams will not be allowed to use cell phones, maps, or transportation of any kind other than walking, and will only be provided the most minimal of tools in order to find their way back to the Conflux. The tools provided—and the rules of the game—will change from time to time. The first team to return to the Conflux does not neccesarily “win,” as it will be based on a point system that we invent. Each team will have discovered collectively, and as individuals, elements of the urban space, their reactions to it, and their reactions to being disoriented in it that would be hard to predict. The inspiration for the Game comes from the types of exercises that early psychogeographers used to intentionally disorient themselves—traveling in one city with a map of another, for example.
